Syrian army liberates nine villages around Hasakah

Syrian armed forces have managed to make fresh advances against foreign-backed Takfiri militants near the northeastern city of al-Hasakah.

According to reports, Syrian government troops regained control of nine villages around the northeastern city, located approximately 650 kilometers (400 miles) northeast of the capital Damascus.

Elsewhere on the battlefield, Syrian forces killed a number of terrorists after they engaged in fierce clashes with them in the central province of Homs on Saturday.

Also in the southern town of Sheikh Miskin, Dara’a province, more than 50 militants, including a commander, were killed in the fighting.

The Syrian army operations were conducted as government forces continued clearing the eastern city of Deir al-Zour from the ISIL Takfiri terrorists, who control swathes of land in Syria and neighboring Iraq.

Earlier in the day, the Britain-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) announced that 21 militants and nine government troopers lost their lives during fighting for control of a key supply route north of Aleppo, which is situated about 310 kilometers (193 miles) north of Damascus on Sunday.

Rami Abdel Rahman, who heads SOHR, stated that units of Syrian army have made an advance at Handarat area, just north of Aleppo.

Over the past months, Syrian soldiers have made numerous gains in the battle against the foreign-sponsored militants, inflicting heavy losses on them in several areas.

Since March 2011, Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis that has claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people, according to the United Nations.

The government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has vowed to push ahead with its efforts to root out terrorism in the Arab country and establish national reconciliation.
