Kurdish troops advance on ISIL in Syria’s Kobane

AMMAN, (KUNA) — The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) managed Saturday to recapture southern parts of Ain Al-Arab (Kobane) city, north Syria, four months after the city fell into the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
As a result of their offensive, the YPG troops killed 10 ISIL militants, and controlled Termik village and Kobane-Aleppo road on the southern outskirts of the city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.
The fighting is still going on around Al-Sharia school and the industrial area inside the city The Kurdish defenders of the city started yesterday an offensive on ISIL sites and controlled two streets.
In Damascus, mortar rounds fell on Al-Zabalatani neighborhood where three people were killed, Al-Kossour district, and in the vicinity of the Russian tower.
In the southern governorate of Daraa, the opposition fighters escalated their attacks on the regular troops in such areas as Al-Delli, Al-Faqi’e, Tallat Al-Katiba, Faraoun and Al-Sehiliya, as well as Sheikh Miskin district, according to Shaam news network.
The Free Syrian Army and the Islamist armed groups joined forces in the battles and are advancing on the regular troops, the network reported, citing local sources. (end) tk.gb
