Turkish police seize bomb-laden car near Syrian border

Police seized a car loaded with a large cache of explosives in the southeastern town of Suruç on Saturday.

Şanlıurfa Police Chief Eyüp Pınarbaşı said five suspects had been detained following the seizure of the car.

The incident comes one day after a bomb detonated by remote control rocked an area near a Turkish police checkpoint in the town, wounding three people.

Sources told Reuters that explosives were placed under a car and detonated near the town of Suruç, some 15 kilometers (nine miles) north of the Syrian town of Kobani, where Kurdish fighters recently forced out Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants after a four-month siege.
