IS storm the city of al- Hasakah and seize neighborhoods in it, 50 deaths in the clashes

Al- Hasakah Province:

Violent clashes are erupting between the regime forces, backed by NDF and al- Baath battalions, and IS militants in the neighborhoods located in the south of the city of al- Hasakah due to violent attack carried out by IS on the city. The clashes is accompanied by mutual and violent shelling between the two sides as well as intense airstrikes on IS positions and the areas that it could advance towards them, coincided with detonated a booby- trapped vehicle by IS near a regime checkpoint at the entrance of the city in the west of the city. In addition to, several resources reported to SOHR that IS could reach to the Sport City’s street, which is opposite to the center prison and the criminal security branch, after seizing the neighborhoods of al- Nashwa and al- shari’ah reaching to the Sport City’s street in south and south city of al- Hasakah. the local resources confirmed that the regime forces and allied militiamen have prevent the people to displace from their home in the neighborhoods of Gweiran and other areas in the city, and that they made them return to their houses while some families could sneak and save their lives. The clashes resulted in the death of at least 30 members of the regime forces and 20 IS members, amid ongoing attempt by IS to advance towards the area and seizing more positions inside the city.

 

 

It is noted that, this attack is considered the fourth attack carried out on the city since May 30, where IS could advance in the third attack and take control over al- Ahdath Prison, the electricity company, the village of al- Dawodeyyi and other areas in the city before the regime forces and allied militiamen forced IS to retreat. The clashes accompanied by committing 11 suicide bombs by IS militants when they blew themselves up in booby- trapped vehicles in al- Ahdath Prison, the electricity company and near the regime checkpoints in south and southeast of the city of al- Hasakah. The clashes resulted in the death of at least 71 members of the regime forces and allied militiamen, including a leading figure in al- Baath battalions in al- Hasakah, as well as 48 IS militants. SOHR also documented the death of at least 43 IS militants with their families due to targeting a market in the city of al- Shaddadi by 4 rockets in late May, while 3 other civilians killed due to fall of shells on the city.
