The details of arresting and executing The Syrian archaeologist Dr. Khaled al- As’ad

Close resources from Dr. Khaled al- As’ad the Former Director General of Palmyra Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in the city of Palmyra informed SOHR that the execution of Dr. Khaled was on base of slanders by IS militants from the people of Palmyra city, and who have personal vendetta with the scholar Khaled who was killed at 83 years old, and who wrote and co-authored dozens of researches, studies, books about Palmyra and its antiquities. He also participated and supervised several scientific missions. The martyr Dr. Khaled, who got several orders from the presidents of Western and North African countries, was afraid of IS attack on the city of Palmyra and its antiquities, where they attacked the city in the middle of May, 2015 and seized it in May 20, 2015.

 

The close resources confirmed to SOHR that some IS militants from the city of Plamyra involved in arresting him a month ago, where IS organization promised to release him but it shocked the people of Plmyra city when they took him to the public square in the city and gathered the children and citizens around him, then the coward masked executioner from the city of Palmyra, who feared for himself of revenge in the future, beheaded him by a big knife, after that they crucified him on an electricity pole in a street in the city of Palmyra putting his head between his two feet and accusing him of “supporting the Nusayri (Alawi) regime because he is the representative of Syria in Blasphemousness conferences, being the director of the archaeological idols of Palmyra, visiting Iran and attending the concert victory of al- Khomeini’s revolution, communicating with his brother the head of the intelligence branch of Filistin and communicating with a general in the presidential palace.”

 

Meanwhile, several reliable sources informed SOHR that IS has demolished false statues in front of the public to delude them that they are original once, but it has conveyed the original statues from Palmyra to buy them to antique dealers in the nearby countries to Syria.
