In 3 successive weeks…the landmines that the organization planted to protect itself, kill 44 citizens mostly women and children and injure tens others in different Syrian areas

As the influence of the “Islamic State” organization has greatly declined in most of the Syrian territory, and after it was cornered in one large pocket in the Syrian Desert north of Palmyra up to inside the administrative border of Deir Ezzor province, the remnants of IEDs and mines it left behind, are still claiming the lives of Syrians who go after their livelihood in the desert and farmlands, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented between the 24th of February 2019, until today the 17th of March 2019, the death of 44 persons including 37 women and 5 children, who were killed in explosions of mines and IEDs of the organization’s remnants in separated areas of the Syrian territory in Homs, Hama and Deir Ezzor, and among the total death toll, the SOHR has documented in less than a week, the death of 24 persons including 19 women and 3 children while searching for and collecting the truffle plant, which grows in the areas that witness heavy rainfall and it is sold at very high prices, the mines and IEDs have also left tens of injuries with varying severity since late February, mostly women, where some of them had to have their limbs amputated, some suffered from medium injuries and some others had inconsiderable injuries.

The SOHR published hours ago, that it monitored more human losses as a result of the explosion of landmines planted in the western sector of Deir Ezzor countryside, where it rose to 16 including 14 women at least, the number of casualties who were killed due to the explosion which took place near Al-Huraibisha town within the area between Al-Shmaytiyyeh and Al-Kharita, while more than 32 others have been injured with varying severity including 26 women, and the SOHR published hours ago, that the remnants of the Syrian war still inflict more human losses on the Syrian territory, where reliable sources informed the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, that the explosion of landmines planted previously in the area between Al-Shmaytiyyeh and Al-Kharita in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, resulted in the killing of 13 persons at least as well as the injury of about 20 others, where the reliable sources confirmed that the explosion took place near Al-Huraibisha town, while the people in the vehicle were coming back after collecting truffles from the area’s Desert, while the Syrian Observatory published on the 10th of March 2019, that it monitored the explosion of more remnants of previous military operations, particularly within areas which used to be controlled by the “Islamic State” Organization, where it planted thousands of mines that had not yet been swept by the regime forces and their allies, who control the area and opened roads for their military vehicles without caring for the lives of civilians, who have been driven by poor living conditions to search within the desert areas for the truffle plant, which grows in the areas that witness heavy rainfall and it is sold at very high prices, the thing which caused more casualties, and the Syrian Observatory documented the death of 8 citizens including 3 children and 5 women, in addition to the injury of more than 10 others with varying severity, as a result of the explosion of mines in al-Ark area of Palmyra in the eastern countryside of Homs, raising to 28 including 3 children and 23 women the number of people killed in mine explosions in areas of Wadi al-Azeeb, al-Sa’en, and Palmyra Desert, in a continuation of mine explosion since the 24th of February 2019, in 2 weeks of similar incidents.

The Syrian Observatory published on the 9th of March 2019, that he casualties continue to increase through the explosion of remnants of battles and military operations in various Syrian areas, where the Syrian Observatory monitored the death of 2 children and the injury of others, as a result of the explosion of a bomb that did not explode earlier in Najm al-Zohur area in the northern countryside of Salamiyah within the eastern countryside of Hama, and the Syrian Observatory published on the 7th of February 2019 numbers of civilian casualties are still continuing as a result of the explosion of remnants of the war on the Syrian territory in the northern sector of Hama countryside, and in the western countryside of Idlib, where it rose to at least 5 citizens they are: a woman and 4 of her sons under the age of sixteen, the number of people who were killed today, Thursday the 7th of March 2019, as a result of the explosion of a landmine planted previously in Taybat al-Imam town which is under the control of the regime forces in Hama countryside, also a young man was killed as a result of the explosion of an unexploded bomb in Jisr Al-Shughur area in the western countryside of Idlib, and the SOHR published on the 24 hours, that monitored the killing of a regime forces’ officer in Deir Ezzor within regime forces’-controlled areas, where an officer colonel was killed in circumstances that still unknown until the moment, and the sources suggested that the officer was killed by a mine explosion in the countryside of the city, where the Syrian Observatory monitored the explosion of a mine in a military vehicle of the regime forces and their allies, while the Syrian Observatory published on the 25th of February 2019 that at least 3 members of the regime forces were documented killed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in a mine explosion from the remnants of the “Islamic State” Organization south of Deir Ezzor city.

And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 19th of February 2019 that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of a young man from Sheikh Meskin town in the northwestern countryside of Daraa, where he died affected by injuries he had in a landmine explosion near his home in the town, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 15th of February 2019 that a violent explosion was heard in the vicinity of al-Qaryatayn city in the eastern countryside of Homs, it was caused by a landmine explosion near the city junction, which injured a man and a woman, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 13th of February that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of a man and his son from Nawa city in the Daraa countryside, where they died affected by injuries they had in a landmine explosion while they were working in agriculture in Adwan area in Yarmouk basin at the western countryside of Daraa, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 8th of February 2019 that remnants of war on the Syrian territory continue to cause more casualties, deaths, and injuries in a different Syrian areas, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored several explosions in Wadi al-Azeeb area in al-Sa’en area in the eastern countryside of Hama, it ruined out to be caused by the explosion of several landmines in the area, where a group of residents were present at the place where the mines were planted, and intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights the 7 people at least were killed and several others were injured, some of them are in dangerous situations which may raise the death toll, raising to 11, the number of people who were killed in mines in Hama countryside during the last 72 hours, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 5th of February 2019 that the Syrian Observatory documented the explosion of a mine in Rasm al-Ahmar village in the northeastern countryside of Hama, which killed 4 people and injured others with varying severity, while the Syrian Observatory published on the 3rd of February 2019, that an explosive device exploded in al-Qanafez village on the outskirts of al-Sabbura town in eastern countryside of Hama, the “Islamic State” organization had planted it earlier in the area which injured a person, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 2nd of February 2019 that an explosion was heard in the vicinity of Nahte town in the countryside of Daraa, it turned out to be caused by a landmine explosion in the area but no information about casualties, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Right published on the 30th of January 2018 that an explosion was heard in Abla area in the countryside of al-Bab city in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, it turned out to be caused by the explosion of a landmine of the remnant of ISIS which was planted earlier injuring two people, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 28th of January  2019 that an explosion was heard in Mahja town in the countryside of Daraa, caused by a landmine explosion which killed a man and injured others, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 23rd of January 2019 that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored more human casualties as a result of the explosion of more remnants of military operations in the various Syrian areas, where the Syrian Observatory monitored the death of a farmer by a mine explosion in Alma area in the countryside of Daraa, while the Syrian Observatory monitored the injury of 3 children in al-Bab city in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, due to an explosion of bullets of heavy machineguns west of the city, while the Syrian Observatory published about 48 hours ago that explosions were heard in Salamiyah city, in the eastern sector of Hama countryside, it was caused by 3 grenades thrown by unidentified gunmen on areas in Salamiyah city, which injured a child, amid a state of alertness in the city in an attempt to arrest the perpetrators, and the Syrian Observatory published on the 16th of January 2019, that a violent explosion was heard in Iblin village in Jabal al-Zawiyah it turned out that it was caused by a landmine explosion in several children during their grazing of sheep, which injured 4 children; 2 of them are in serious condition, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 14th of January 2018 that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the death of a citizen woman and 3 children, as a result of the explosion of bullets’ projectiles in Gharanij area in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor countryside, of the remnants of the military operations in the area, while the Syrian Observatory monitored days ago, the sound of an explosion in Al-Sa’en area in the eastern countryside of Hama, caused by the explosion of a landmine planted previously in the area by the “Islamic State” organization, where the explosion resulted in killing a person as well the injury of 5 others with varying severity, and the SOHR published days ago, that a new incident of the remnant of the war in the countryside of Homs, which continue to claim lives, where at least one person was killed and others were injured by a landmine explosion, it was planted earlier on the outskirts of al-Qaryatayn area in the southeastern countryside of Homs, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 2 people by a landmine planted in the northeastern countryside of Hama earlier, where the mine exploded in the vicinity of al-Sheikh Hilal village in the western countryside of Salamiyah, and controlled by the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 21st of November 2018 that a violent explosion was heard in Arafa village in the eastern countryside of Hama, which is under the control of the regime forces, it turned out to be caused by a landmine explosion in a child on the outskirts of the village, which injured her seriously and amputated of one of her upper limbs, and the Syrian Observatory published on the 11th of  November 2018 that a violent explosion was heard today morning in Suha village in Uqayribat Township in the eastern countryside of Hama which is controlled by the regime forces, caused by the explosion of a bomb that did not explode earlier, which injured a child, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights punished last night, the 10th of November 2018, that 6 citizens of the same family were killed as a result of the explosion of a landmine that was planted previously in the northern sector of Hama countryside, where the landmine exploded in their vehicle while they were moving in the area between Al-Zafiriyyah and Al-Zughbah villages, which resulted in the death of 6 citizens of one family including a child, and the reliable sources confirmed that the family is descended from Um Tarkikah village in the southern countryside of Idlib, where the Syrian Observatory monitored in the recent weeks and months, the death of tens of people and injury of tens others due to the explosion of mines and shells’ remnants in both Hama and Idlib countryside.
