Golan Heights debate is no different than Russia and Ukraine

President Donald Trump signed a declaration that said the Golan Heights, which Israel captured during a war with Syria over 30 years ago, is now officially part of Israel. Many countries that are friends of the U.S. condemned this act. I guess it is reasonable for the U.S. to make this declaration since it is almost certain that the land will never be given back to Syria.

On this same subject, Russia took over Ukraine’s land in Crimea, where Russia has a large naval base. The international community condemned this takeover and has imposed sanctions on Russia as a form of punishment.

In light of recognizing the Golan Heights as part of Israel, America might as well recognize the land that Russia took from Ukraine. It is also almost certain that the land will never be given back to Ukraine. America should lift the sanctions against Russia. This act would greatly increase the president’s “bromance” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
