M.M.F. and H.A.J. 2 Former ISIS checkpoint officials in al-Mayadin became members of the “National Army” and the Observatory documents 64 ISIS members joined the ranks of the Turkish-backed factions

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights obtained today new information documenting members of the “Islamic State” Organization; who joined the ranks of the Turkish-backed factions in the so-called Syrian National Army, and according to sources of the Syrian Observatory “among members of the Islamic State Organization in al-Mayadin city there is a person named M.M.F., who is one of the first people to swear allegiance to the Organization in the city, and he was responsible for checkpoints in the city in 2016, he then stole a pick-up truck from a civilian and fled to the Syrian north, where he joined (Ahrar al-Sharqiyyah) faction. He now lives in (Jandairis) area of Afrin.”

Reliable sources, indicated to the Syrian Observatory that among the other members of the “Islamic State” Organization who joined the Turkish-backed factions; there is a person named H.A.J., who is also from “al-Mayadin” city, the sources said: “This person started as a member of al-Nusra Front formerly, then defected from it and joined the Islamic State Organization, he was responsible for the checkpoint of al-Mayadin city’s bridge in 2016, and he also fled to the Syrian north after the Organization discovered that he was getting royalties from the oil tankers that cross the checkpoint he used to runs in the name of the Organization, and now he is a member of (Ahrar al-Sharqiyyah) Faction and a resident of the Afrin area.”

And according to information published by the Syrian Observatory over the past period; there are 64 documented former members of the “Islamic State” Organization who have joined the ranks of Turkish-backed factions within the so-called “Syrian National Army”, and these 64 members have become leaders and fighters among the Turkish-backed factions.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirms that it has full information about those mentioned people, and it was able to document them and the periods during which they joined the ranks of the “Islamic State” Organization, and their transition to join the ranks of Turkish-backed factions. The Syrian Observatory also confirms that it is ready to provide such evidence and documentation to the relevant authorities if requested, to investigate the incidents that led former members of the “Islamic State” Organization to join the ranks of the Turkish-backed factions, which are supported by Turkey within the operations of “Peace Spring”, “Olive Branch,” and “Euphrates Shield.”
