Tension mounts in Daraa’s Nahteh, and residents of other towns and villages threaten to escalate operations against the Syrian regime

Daraa Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR monitored mounting tension in Nahteh town in the eastern countryside of Daraa against the backdrop of holding nearly 20 regime soldiers by the town’s locals, in a response to arresting a person from the town by the regime on Friday.

Fears are escalating over the regime reaction and the possibility of launching an armed security campaign in the town.

Meanwhile, locals of several towns and villages show solidarity with Nahteh’s and threatened to escalate military operations against the regime forces if they stormed the town.

The Syrian Observatory activists monitored graffiti wrote by locals in the villages and towns of Al-Muzayrib, Da’el, Tasil, Al-Karak Al-Sharqi, Maaraba and Al-Mulayha Al-Gharbiyah.

Yesterday, the Syrian Observatory monitored a state of security tension prevailing in the province of Daraa, in which armed locals attacked a regime military checkpoint in Al-Karak Al-Sharqi town and held eight members and seized their weapons and materiel.

Through such actions, the local try to put pressure over the regime forces to negotiate for the release of detainees in the town.

In connection to this, reliable sources informed the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that residents of Nahta town in the eastern countryside of Daraa, held nearly 20 regime soldiers who are present in the town and seized their weapons, in response to the arrest of one of the people of the town yesterday in al-Msifra town.
