ISIS resurgence: 20 regime soldiers killed or wounded in new attack in Syrian Desert

Deir ez-Zor Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: The Syrian Observatory reported a new attack carried out by the “Islamic State” members on regime forces positions in the Syrian Desert.

The group’s members attacked regime forces and loyalists’ positions in Al-Mayadeen desert, east of Deir ez-Zor, started firing several rocket-propelled grenades, followed by an exchange of machine-gun fire between the two sides.

The attack wounded 19 regime soldiers, eight of whom were transferred to al-Hammad hospital in Al-Mayadeen city, while others, who were in critical condition, were transferred to Deir ez-Zo city.

Moreover, a lieutenant in regime forces was killed by a landmine planted by the “Islamic State” in Deir ez-Zor desert. The lieutenant hails from the city of Al Mayadeen.

The death toll since late March 24 to date has risen. The Syrian Observatory documented the death of at least 349 members of regime forces and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian citizens, including at least two Russians.

In addition to 37 members of Iranian-backed militias of non-Syrian citizens, all were killed in ISIS attacks, IEDs and ambushes in the western Euphrates, and the desert of Deir ez-Zor, Homs and Sweida.

SOHR also confirmed the death of four civilians working in the gas fields as a result of the group’s attacks, while 103 persons have been killed during the same period in attacks, bombings and targets.
