Russian jets bombard Aleppo and Idlib countryside, with over 180 airstrikes pound the “de-escalation” zone

Syrian Observatory activists reported seeing this evening six Russian jets consecutively bombarding Sarmin, Qumaynas, the vicinity of Idlib city in Idlib countryside, and Al-Bawabiyah town in the southern countryside of Aleppo.

Accordingly, the number of today’s airstrikes carried out by Russian jets targeting the vicinity of Saraqeb, Ariha, Musaybin, Qumaynas, Al-Bawabiyah and areas near the M4 highway in both Idlib and Aleppo countryside rose to 148.

Meanwhile, regime jets executed 18 raids targeting Al-Nayrab and Sarmin towns in Idlib countryside. Also regime helicopters dropped 15 barrel-bombs on conflict zones in Idlib countryside.

Separately, clashes are underway between regime forces and Iranian-backed militias on one hand, and rebel and jihadi factions on the other, in both Idlib and Aleppo. SOHR sources confirmed that the regime forces advanced into 20 areas in the past few hours: Sheikh Idrees, Baj’as, Al-Rayyan, Tal Al-Rumman, Parisa, al-Hammamat, Tal al-Sultan, Om Sharshuh, al-Khashakhish, Tal Ibrahim, Jabal al-Taweel, al-Katiba al-Mahjoura, al-Blisa, al-Wastah, Kweires, Tal al-Aghar, al-Mshirfah, Tawil al-Haleeb, al-Raqim, and Jdaydet al-Khatra.

Accordingly, the number of areas captured by the regime forces since Friday evening, January 24 rose to 72 villages and towns: Telmans, Ma’ar Shmasha, Deir Sharqi, Deir Al-Gharbi, Ma’ar Shmarin, Ma’rata, Al-Ghadfa, Ma’ar Shourin Al-Za’alana, Al-Dana, Tal Sheikh, Sawami’e, Khirbet Mezyan, Masaran, Bsida, Taqana, Babolin, Kafr Bassin, Marhatat, Hamidia, Dar Al-Salaam, Salhia, Kafruma, Maarrat Al-Nu’man city, Wadi Al-Daif, Hantutin, Al-Jarrada, Al-Ruwayha and Al-Qahiryah, Khan al-Sobol town, Mardebseh, Al-Hartamiyah, Qamhana, Abu Juraif, Tal Khatrah, Tal Musaytif, Al-Kana’es, Karsyan, Hish, Kafr Mazdah, Jabbalah, Muqah, Al-Amudiyah, Armanya, Kafr Batikh, Dadikh, Luf, Anqarati, Jubas, Sannan, Zakkar, Tarnabeh and Al-Nayrab, Mardikh, Tal Mardikh, Kaddur, Al-Ruwayha, the Abandoned Battalion, Al-Balisah, Al-Wasitah, Kuwayris, Tal Al-Agher, Al-Mushayrafah, Tawil Al-Halib, Al-Raqim, Jadidat Al-Khatrah, Sheikh Idrees, Baj’as, Al-Rayyan, Tal Al-Rumman, Parisa, al-Hammamat, Tal al-Sultan, Om Sharshuh, al-Khashakhish, Tal Ibrahim and Jabal al-Taweel).

19 regime soldiers and loyalists confirmed dead in the attacks and clashes against opposition factions and jihadis in both western and southern countryside of Aleppo. 18 jihadis among 26 fighters were also killed in the Russian bombardment and clashes.

As SOHR activists documented more human losses, the number of fatalities in the ranks of both warring forces who have been killed in bombardment and fierce clashes since Friday, the 24th of January 2020, rose to 368 opposition fighters, including 263 jihadis, and 347 regime soldiers and loyalists of whom there are ten foreign militiamen loyal to Iran.

Observatory sources reported this evening that the rebel and Jihadi factions were able to regain control of al-Qal’ajiyyeh and al-Hmira villages in the southern countryside of Aleppo after fierce clashes against regime forces and Iranian-backed militias.
