Russian and regime military operations: humanitarian catastrophe worsens as over 100,000 displaced persons flee western rural Aleppo in the past 48 hours

The humanitarian disaster continues to worsen in jihadist and fighting factions-held areas in Aleppo and Idlib provinces, with freezing temperatures and extreme cold weather.

SOHR sources report that the massive exodus of civilians continued from western rural Aleppo, with ongoing advance of Russian-backed regime forces and supported by the Russians. The Syrian Observatory learned that hundreds of families stayed in the open last night in areas in northern rural Idlib on the Syrian border with Iskenderun region, and in Turkish forces and proxy factions-held areas in northern rural Aleppo, with complete inability of humanitarian organizations to assist the huge numbers of displaced people.

This brings the number of civilians who have been displaced by regime and Russians military operations to more than 100,000 persons fled towns and villages of western rural Aleppo in the past 48 hours.

According to the Syrian Observatory statistics, the number of displaced people from Idlib since the start of the ground offensive on January 24 has reached some 380,000 Syrian civilians, while the number of displaced people from Aleppo and Idlib since mid-January has risen to 550,000, as military operations continue by air and land. The total number since early December has risen to about 980,000 from Idlib and Aleppo.
