Al-Rukban camp: lack of foodstuff and medical supplies .. tight siege imposed by regime forces, while international community continues turning blind eye to the humanitarian crisis

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is still monitoring and tracking developments and the catastrophic inhumane situation in Al-Rukban refugee camp which is located near Iraq-Syria-Jordan border.

Reliable sources have informed SOHR that the camp lacks minimum levels of basic necessities in the shadow of the acute shortage of flour, sugar and a lot of other foodstuffs.

On the other hand, the medical services in the camp are deteriorating, since medicine and medical supplies are unavailable in the camp almost completely as a result of the tight siege imposed by regime forces on the camp, especially in the past two weeks. It is noteworthy that goods and medical supplies used to be smuggled into the camp.

Furthermore, the situation of many patients that need medical care is further deteriorating, since there are no any nearby medical centres or posts, after the closure of Al-Awn medical post by the Jordanian authorities nearly 12 days ago. Al-Awn Medical post, located in Jordon on Syria border, used to provide medical services and had the capacity for performing surgical operations for the camp’s inhabitants.

On the other hand, there are no suspected cases of coronavirus in the camp so far. Meanwhile, several displaced people have released awareness-raising campaigns on the ways and methods of preventing the spread of the pandemic.

All of these developments coincide with the international community and United Nation’s inaction towards the humanitarian crisis of the people who refused to leave the camp to regime-held areas, despite Russia and regime’s efforts to persuade them to evacuate the camp.
