Israeli jets strike suspected Hezbollah targets in Syria

Israeli air force jets reportedly struck suspected Hezbollah and Syrian army weapons caches in Syria before dawn on Monday, days after another alleged Israeli strike, according to the pan-Arab television station Al Jazeera.

The attack reportedly took place in the al-Qalamoun region just north of Damascus.

The report indicated that the attack did result in deaths and injuries, though the exact number was not known.

According to the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya television network, the target of the strike was a military post manned by soldiers from the 155th Brigade of the Syrian armed forces – the outfit that is believed to have been involved in the delivery of Scud missiles to Hezbollah.

The reported attack comes hours after the IAF struck and killed four terrorists who crossed into Israel from Syria and planted explosives near an abandoned IDF post on Sunday night.

An IDF source declined to say which organization the terrorist cell belonged to, saying it was too soon for such details.

The incident, which occurred at 9:30 p.m. on the northern Golan Heights near Majdal Shams, began when Combat Intelligence Collection units identified four suspects planting the explosives on the eastern side of the border fence, within Israeli territory.

The suspects were placed under a top priority observation for several minutes before action was taken.

On Saturday, Al Jazeera reported of another alleged IAF strike on Syrian military bases housing long-range missiles.

According to the report, the bases, near the Syrian-Lebanese border, belong to Assad regime brigades that possess weapons such as Scud missiles.  The attacks allegedly targeted multiple targets in the area.

The IDF declined to comment on the foreign report.
