BEIRUT (AP) – An activist group says at least 30 people are dead after Syrian government airstrikes hit a vegetable market in a northern town held by rebels. Scores of others are reported wounded.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, fighter jets hit the crowded market near Aleppo early today. Another activist group says the airstrikes killed 24 people.

The attacks came as state media reported that another Syrian lawmaker announced his candidacy for the June presidential election. President Bashar Assad is expected to win that vote.
