The death of the slaughterer of Saidnaya Prison, between joy, satisfaction and ambiguity about details of his death

A state of satisfaction prevails among the prisoners and the detainees of the notorious prison of Saidnaya, after the Staff Brigadier General Mahmoud Maatouk, the director Saidnaya Prison, was killed , and reliable sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that satisfaction and joy was expressed by the prisoners who suffered severe punishment by the deceased Brigadier General and the members under his command.

The reliable sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that Maatouk supervised many assassinations and executions witnessed in Saidnaya Prison during the past few years, and the killings under the cruel torture against detainees and opponents of the regime in this prison which has the largest number of prisoners, and which is one of the largest prisons in Syria, in which Maatouk received orders by higher authorities, while ambiguity surrounds the circumstances of the death of the Brigadier General Mahmoud Maatouk, amid a state of joy prevailed among the opponent parties which suggested that he was killed by gunmen of the Syrian opposition, while other parties accused the regime’s security bodies of killing and assassinate him by a technique shows that it was a nature death, in order to keep the assassinations, the executions and the aggressions carried out by Maatouk during the period from he was assigned to be the director of Saidnaya Prison until his death, as secrets, and to get rid of his black history, in which news was spred that his death was nature and resulted by a health crisis caused his death.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the death of 14745 civilian casualties including 120 children under the age of eighteen and 59 woman over the age of eighteen, who have died since the start of the Syrian revolution in mid-March 2011 until the 30th October 2017, until today the 15th of January 2018, who were killed inside these branches and Saidnaya Prison in more than 6 and half years, either as a result of direct physical torture or deprivation of food and medicine, and it is noteworthy that despite the release of hundreds of prisoners and detainees by the authorities of the regime of Bashar al-Assad during varying periods, some of them got out by a “presidential pardon”, some of them have gotten out in prisoner exchange deals between opposition factions and Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham, and the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them or in other similar deals, but the regime forces handed over the bodies of some of the detainees to their relatives, while others were informed that their sons had died inside detentions and asked them to issue their death certificate, and the other people who sons died under torture in regime’s jails were forced to sign declarations that opposition rebel groups had killed them, also the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights received information indicating that there were many cases of citizens killed under torture within regime’s jails, in which their parents and relatives didn’t declare their death because they were afraid of prosecution by regime’s security or detention.
