The “Olive Branch” battles in Afrin continue raising the number of the citizens, fighters and soldiers who were killed during 5 consecutive days to about 125 persons

The “Olive Branch” Operation which Turkey announced on the 20th of January 2018, against Afrin area, is continuing, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the continuation of killing citizens, in addition to the continuation of the shelling and fighting in several separated areas in Afrin, where the SOHR monitored the fall of more civilian casualties raising to 30 at least, the number of citizens who have been killed since the “Olive Branch” Operation was launched, they are 2 citizens were killed in shelling by the SDF on areas in Kiljibrin town controlled by the rebel and Islamic factions in the northern countryside of Aleppo, and 28 citizens including 8 children and 4 women, the number of citizens who were killed by the Turkish aerial, artillery and rocket shelling on several areas of Afrin located in the north-western countryside of Aleppo.

In the same context, the ongoing clashes, shelling, raids and exchange of targeting in the contact areas between the both parties, resulted in the fall of human losses in the ranks of the both parties, where in has increased to 42 at least, the number of the fighters of the YPG and the Civil Defense who were killed in these clashes and the Turkish airstrikes and the rocket and artillery shelling, while the death toll has increased to 48 at least, the number of fighters of the rebel and Islamic factions operating within the “Olive Branch” Operation who were killed in addition to 2 soldiers of the Turkish forces, while these clashes resulted in the fall of a large number of wounded in the ranks of the both parties, as well as the presence of captives.

And despite the increased number of human losses in the ranks of the both parties, the clashes have been still continuing since today dawn Wednesday the 24th of January 2018, between he rebel and Islamic faction and the Turkish forces against the YPG, in areas in the northern and the western of Afrin, in which the clashes are concentrated in the areas of Qastal Jendo, Balyeh, Qarna, Adamanly, Shenkal, Hamam, Surka, and other areas along the northern and the western borders, while areas in the vicinity of Maydanki Dam “the 17th Nisan Dam” in Afrin area, were bombed by warplanes which also bombed areas in the townships of Raju and Jendires as well as other areas in Afrin countryside, in which the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored that the raids targeted the areas of Basoufan, Kafar Rom, Bafalun, Qastal Jendo, Kindi, Mazn, Halubiyah, Qatma and Kbashin in the townships of Shirawa, Sharra and Bulbula in Afrin area.
