More than 2 months after their first attack… drones carry out a new attack on the largest Russian military base in Syria

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored today dawn, Sunday the 11th of March 2018, an attack by drones on Hmeimim Military Airbase in the countryside of Jebla city located in Lattakia province, which is the main Russian military base in Syria, and no information about casualties was reported yet, and intersected sources confirmed for the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the Russian forces located in the base, managed to abort the attacks of these drones on the largest Russian military base in the Syrian territory.

And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 7th of January 2018, that the countryside of Jebla city located in Lattakia province specifically Hmeimim Military Airbase and its vicinity, is witnessing alertness by the Russian forces as well as the regime forces and their allies, few hours after targeting Hmeimim Military Airbase, by a drone, which sources asserted to the SOHR that it belongs to an Islamic faction operating in the northeastern countryside of Lattakia, and the alertness comes in an attempt to provide greater security to Hmeimim Military Airbase and prevent any targeting aims to strike the Russian forces in its largest military base in the Syrian territory, following targeting for two times during one week, in which the first was on the New Year Eve, while the other was yesterday the 6th of January 2018, amid tension prevailing the area of future attacks expected to be carried out against the military airbase, which is the starting point of most of the Russian warplanes which carry out strikes on the Syrian territory.

The targeting by drones to military positions of the Russian forces, or the regime-held areas, was not the first of kind in Syria, as several Syrian areas witnessed previous targeting by drones, most prominent of which is the targeting which Al-Raqqah city and its countryside as well as Deir Ezzor witnessed during 2017, carried out by drones launched by the organization to target the positions of the International Coalition forces of the Syria Democratic Forces during “Euphrates Wrath” Operation which finished with controlling Al-Raqqah city which used to be the stronghold of the organization in Syria, in addition to the targeting which hit the positions of the Russian forces and the regime forces and gunmen loyal to them in Deir Ezzor city and its countryside, where a drone made by ISIS targeted by 2 bombs at least, military supplies, armored vehicles and ammunition depots in the stadium at Damascus – Deir Ezzor International Road, at dawn of the 8th of October 2017, which caused great explosions and the break of fires in the stadium, and the media of the regime falsified the aerial targeting to the regime forces and their military supplies and depots in Deir Ezzor Stadium south of the city, and claimed that the organization targeted its vehicles and depots it owned, before it withdraw from the stadium they specified that it is located between Al-Ommal and the Old airport neighborhoods in Deir Ezzor city, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published at that time, that successive explosions rocked Deir Ezzor city, which is witnessing fighting between the regime forces and gunmen loyal to them against the “Islamic State” organization, before the regime forces took the control of the city.
