The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights

With the ongoing looting and thefts… the humanitarian organizations and the regime ignore hundreds of thousands of people displaced from Afrin and rage their resentment

Displacements synchronize, tragedies coincide, and pain continues, in two areas where advancement, killing, displacement and destruction by the Russians and the Turks are corresponding, between Afrin and the Eastern Ghouta, there is a long distance but the pain is similar, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored since the 10th of March 2018, the escalation of the displacement from Afrin area, after a series of displacement from a village to another and from a town to another, reaching Afrin city in order to be gathered there, after long travels during which some displaced people stayed in caves for several days, until the pace of the Turkish shelling is decreased and to find save place or a way enables them to reach Afrin city, but others were not able to arrive, and some of them killed by Turkish strikes, raids or snipers, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the displacement of hundreds of thousands of citizens from Afrin countryside to the city, until mostly left in a mass displacement through mountains and paved and rugged roads and transported to areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where hundreds of thousands of citizens were distributed in areas where the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation intend to start a military operation, according to obtained information, after the factions had lost them for the SDF in the northern countryside of Aleppo in early 2016, and although 11 consecutive days passed, hundreds of thousands of citizens are still stay in the open, amid bad weather, witnessed in the area.

These miserable conditions of hundreds of thousands of displaced people, witnessed, in the early days, ignorance of the humanitarian organization to those people displaced from Afrin area, while the aid provided by the Red Crescent is too little and is not enough for such tragedy and catastrophe that hundreds of thousands displaced people suffer, those people who left their houses as a result of the Turkish attack backed by the Syrian rebel and Islamic opposition factions since the 20the of January 2018, as there are no enough tents, food or water, and the supplies provided for them are too few and is not enough for long time, all of that is being coincided with what sources told the SOHR about of the continuation of the looting of the citizens’ houses, but this time every thing is doing behind the cameras, where the remaining houses, property, machineries, equipment and farms subjected to thefts and looting, by the fighters of the factions of Operation “Olive Branch”, small group of whom abstain from these thefts and expressed their objections to them, while the sources confirmed that all the attempts took place to curb the looting did not applied, and were only media shows to suppress the reactions against the thefts that were shot and filmed, and the sources confirmed that the thefts and looting are continuing in the villages which are away from the media and cameras.

The ignorance of the International Coalition and the relief and humanitarian organizations, to the call for help to aid the people displaced from Afrin in the northern countryside of Aleppo, some of whom managed to reach the towns of Nubl and Al-Zahraa, where some of them were housed by the residents, in addition to the continuation of the regime forces to prevent citizens to reach Aleppo city with the exception of paying fees by the check points deployed at the entrances of Aleppo, raged the resentment of the displaced residents of Afrin, and some of them told the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the regime that secured tens of thousands of citizens and transported them to shelters sponsored by the UN and under the supervision of the Red Crescent, ignores now with the humanitarian organizations the citizens in Afrin, and which increased the situations to be getting worse is that the citizens are prevented to reach their families in Aleppo city.

The mass displacement of the residents of Afrin city and hundreds of villages in its countryside, were coincided with ongoing displacement since the 15th of March 2018, where more than 70 thousand people displaced from the cities and towns of the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus, to the regime’s controlled areas where they were transported to shelters under the supervision of relief organization, where the people displaced from Ghouta suffer from the little humanitarian aid, amid fears for the lives of people who are still inside the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published yesterday that members of the militiamen loyal to the regime forces and other members of the regime forces looted the properties of citizens in areas, recently controlled by the regime forces since the 25th of February 2018, and sources stressed that the looting of properties of citizens took place in houses, shops, cars and vehicles belong to the citizens, in addition to the looting of properties and military premises of areas controlled by the regime forces and militiamen allied to them under the command of Russian officers and advisers, which has reached till now about 83% of the areas controlled by the factions in the Eastern Ghouta, which has been witnessing since today afternoon violent battles as result of attacks by Jaysh Al-Islam in the vicntiy of Douma from the side of Misrab, and an attack by Al-Rahman Corps and Hayaat Tahrir Al-Sham in Kafrbatna town, which coincided with aerial and artillery shelling killing about 20 citizens today and injuring tens others with different severity.

The looting and theft which has been taking place behind the cameras that were shooting the destruction caused by the aerial shelling on the Eastern Ghouta, in conjunction with the displacement of tens of thousands of citizens, came in conjunction with looting and theft monitored by cameras in Afrin city, and were implemented by fighters of the factions operating within “Olive Branch” operation, which completely controlled on Sunday the 18th of March 2018, on Afrin area after the withdrawal of the YPG and the displacement of hundreds of civilians towards the areas controlled by the militiamen loyal to the regime forces, and the SOHR published hours ago that with the continuation of the tragic situations of tens of thousands of citizens, of the people of Afrin city, who are still staying in the open in the areas where the regime forces are deployed in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
