Abductees of al-Suwaidaa live the 5th consecutive week of abduction and the regime forces continue their attempts to advance in Tlul al-Safa at Rif Dimashq Desert

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the regime forces continuing their military operations in the Desert of Rif Dimashq on the administrative border with al-Suwaidaa Desert for the 5th consecutive week, and in details obtained by the Syrian Observatory: the regime forces targeted during the last hours of the night positions in Tlul al-Safa area, in conjunction with continuous clashes between the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them against members of the “Islamic State” organization, in areas in the vicinity and outskirts of Tlul al-Safa, where the continuous clashes and the accompanied targeting have caused more casualties in the ranks of both parties, where the Syrian Observatory documented the rise of number of casualties of both parties, where it rose to 160 at least, the number of ISIS members who have been killed in the bombings, shelling and clashes since the 25th of July 2018, while it rose to at least 59, the number of members of the regime forces and gunmen loyal to them who were killed in the same period, also the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented since the attack of ISIS in Al-Suwaidaa countryside on the 25th of July 2018, the death of about 142 citizens including 38 women and children, in addition to the killing of 116 people, the majority of whom were of the gunmen villagers who carried the gun to repel the organization’s attack, and a 19-year-old boy was executed by ISIS after being kidnapped along with about 30 others, and a woman died when she was held by ISIS in conditions that still vague so far.

The rise in human casualties accompanies the rise of fears for the lives of abducted civilians from villages in the northeastern countryside of al-Suwaidaa, where fears increase of new killings by the “Islamic State” organization against about 30 abducted people, due to the stall by the regime forces to achieve any result, despite the negotiations that took place between the regime forces and the “Islamic State” organization which was coincided with calls to consider the abductees as casualties, which was met by complete rejection by families of the kidnapped people, who accused the parties that called for it by attempting to scare people for the benefit of the regime and not giving the Organization opportunity to have an upper hand over the regime, where originally the regime didn’t care for the fate of the abductees, and the proof of that is its military operation which ended the Organization’s existence in al-Suwaidaa province completely, and although the negotiation process continues, the regime forces has not reached a conclusion through these negotiations that requires the release of abductees before ISIS executes them.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights previously published that the elders of al-Aql Sheikhs of the Unitarian Druze community have made a statement about assigning several people to a negotiating committee, and the Syrian Observatory obtained a copy of the statement, it says:

“due to the present circumstances and requirements of the public interest, a negotiating committee is formed in regard of the abductees of al-Suwaidaa province of the gentlemen: Dr. Samer Abu Ammar, Dr. Saeed al-Ak, Mr. Osama Abu Bakkar, Mr. Adel al-Hadi. And the work of the committee is limited to following up on the case of the abducted people of the province and reaching out to the concerned authorities to achieve their release and return to their families unharmed.”
