The Religious Affairs in Jazeera district announces the opening of the “University of Democratic Islam” for teaching Shari’a, philosophy and Islamic researches

Al-Hasakah Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that the Religious Affairs Office in the democratic self-management in Jazeera district, formally announced about  the opening of a University for teaching Shari’a, philosophy and Islamic researches, and the announcement says: “the Union of Muslim Scholars in north and east of Syria, announces the opening of the University of Democratic Islam -the faculty of Shari’a, philosophy and Islamic researches- Qamishlo”, and the announcement specified the terms of joining the university as follows: “the student must be born in 2011 or earlier until the age of 35, and the graduate is committed to work in the field of imamate, rhetoric or the teaching of religion, and the student must have received the certificate of preparatory or secondary school or equivalent certificate of recognized Sharia study.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian Observatory published in late august 2018, that a state of tension is prevailing the border city of Al-Qamishli, most of which is controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), with the exception of the regime forces’ areas of presence in Al-Moraba’ Al-Amni (the Security Square) and the neighborhoods nearby, and intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, that the state of tension which is accompanied by popular discontent, came as a result of demonstrations included tens of the residents of Al-Qamishli of those who opposed the Kurdish Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and the forces of the Syriac Military Council, to impose their control over the private schools which belong to the Syriac Churches in Al-Qamishli city, where vehicles were monitored surrounding the schools and evacuating them of the administrative body then they held patrols of these forces in the area, which ignited the resentment of the locals who headed to these schools (Al-Amal Private School, Mark Bra’il Syriac Private School, Mar Avram School and Mar Keryakos School) and the demonstrators called out using slogans that oppose the process of imposing control over the schools, and the reliable sources confirmed to the SOHR that Asayish Forces and the Syriac Military Council withdrew after the locals had headed towards these schools, where they forces the military forces to withdraw from their positions, where the sounds of gunfire were heard, intersected sources confirmed that they were caused by opening fire in the air by some members of these patrols, while no information was reported about the fall of wounded caused by this gunfire.
