Less than 50 days after its re-opening, regime’s checkpoints earn millions of Syrian pounds out of royalties imposed on goods of Nassib border crossing with Jordan

Daraa Province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: checkpoints of the regime forces and the intelligence under the supervision of the Syrian regime’s officers in the eastern countryside of Daraa at Nassib border crossing with Jordan, continue imposing financial royalties on vehicles carrying goods to and from the Nassib Border Crossing, and in the details monitored by the Syrian Observatory: checkpoints of the Syrian regime and the gunmen loyal to it at Nassib Crossing in its entrances, exits, and surroundings carry out thorough inspection under the supervision of officers of the checkpoints, and they impose money on the cargo owners, otherwise, the goods are threatened to be confiscated in the easiest way, and at the same time amid a major security chaos; these checkpoints allows the pass of contrabanded goods to and from the crossing point for substantial amount money from the smugglers, in exchange for allowing them to smuggle smoke, oil, meat, vegetables and fuels, letting these checkpoints earn millions of Syrian pounds since the opening of Nassib border crossing with Jordan on the 15th of October 2018, and previously, the Syrian Observatory talked about the royalties and the money imposed by regime’s checkpoints, also the Syrian Observatory published on the 23rd of October 2018 that the intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that Hezbollah -through its staff- is working on imposing its power and influence on Naseeb crossing, which was opened on the 15th of October 2018 through staff working for it inside the crossing, and who are supported by high-ranking officers of the regime forces in Daraa province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 15th of October 2018 that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring the reopening of Naseeb border crossing between Syria and Jordan on the 15th of October 2018, where it went back to service this morning in conjunction with the entry and exit of trucks to and from the Syrian territory, after being closed for at least 3 years after the factions took control of it, but the regime forces regained control of it in July 2018, and the Syrian Observatory published yesterday Sunday, that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored preparations by the Syrian and Jordanian sides for the reopening of Nassib border crossing on the Syrian – Jordanian border, after a meeting between representatives of both parties to agree on its re-operating process, where it is expected that tomorrow morning, the 15th of October 2018, that Nassib crossing will get back to service and start the entry and exit of trucks to and from the Syrian territory through it, this decision comes about 16 days after activists of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights denied the information about opening and re-operating Nassib crossing at the border with Jordan in the eastern countryside of Daraa, where the Syrian Observatory’s activists in the area reported on the 29th of September 2018, that the Syrian regime’s authorities have completed the preparations of the crossing to reopen it in the coming days, where one of the officers at the Naseeb Crossing, who is a colonel, informed the owners of the shops and warehouses within the free area to prepare for the opening of the crossing in the coming days, stating that the regime forces were able to restore the border crossing located on the Syrian – Jordanian border in July 2018.

The Syrian Observatory published on the 6th July 2018 that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the deployment of the regime forces and gunmen loyal to them on the Syrian – Jordanian border, after they entered Nassib Border Crossing with the Russian military police, where the regime forces deployed along the border line with the south-east of Daraa province, and reliable sources confirmed that the regime forces called on the displaced residents to return to their homes, villages and towns, amid fears by the citizens of returning to the area for fear of being arrested or being held accountable by the regime’s authorities, while the Syrian Observatory monitored destruction to the property of the citizens in the towns of Sayda and Om al-Mayathen in the eastern countryside of Daraa, where the rocket and artillery shelling by the Russians and the regime forces has destroyed parts of Sayda town and more than 40% of Om al-Mayathen town, in addition to the destruction in other areas of Daraa province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published that the regime forces and gunmen loyal to them took the control of Nassib Border Crossing, 39 months after they lost it in early April 2015, and this control is coincided with reaching a final and complete agreement on all the items which were presented in the Russian proposal, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that the Syrian opposition and the representatives of Daraa agreed on all the items presented within the Russian proposal which based on a ceasefire, handing over the heavy weapons, the deployment of the Russian military police, the return of the government institutions of the regime and the service institutions, and the implementation of the rest of items of the agreement, in return for approval by the regime and Russia, to open a corridor for those who refuse the agreement towards the Syrian North and the controlled areas of the Turkish forces, as well as the regime’s withdrawal from the villages and towns of the south-east of Daraa province, and this agreement came after thousands of artillery and rocket shells, and thousands of raids and explosive barrels by the Russians warplanes and the regime’s warplanes and helicopters, which resulted in the fall of hundreds of casualties and hundreds of wounded.
