On charges of “corruption and embezzlement”…the Syrian regime arrests the chief of the Syrian Red Crescent who is close to prominent figures in the regime

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that the Syrian regime arrested today, Thursday the 20th of December 2018, the chief of the Syrian Red Crescent Organization, Khaled Hboubati, while sources informed the SOHR that he was arrested on charges related to corruption and embezzling large sums of money estimated at hundreds of millions of SYP, it is noteworthy that the engineer, Hboubati, has been assigned as the chief of the Red Crescent since early 2017, and he has large influence and strong relationships with officials in the Syrian regime, in the same context, the Syrian regime’s authorities are continuing to detain one of the media men who is close to the regime in Damascus province and who is widespread on the social media, while the Syrian Observatory published on the 1st of December 2018, that the intelligence and security services of the Syrian regime have arrested and summoned more than 25 officers of its army and intelligence branches, as part of the continuation of the security campaign in la-Barzeh neighborhood in Damascus, and in the details obtained by the Syrian Observatory: these arrests and summonses of officers of the 4th Division, the Republican Guards, the Air Force intelligence, and other security branches, and the Syrian Observatory was informed by reliable sources that some of the arrested officers were summoned from other provinces and towns in Rif Dimashq, while the rest were summoned and arrested through air intelligence and the Military Security in the capital Damascus, while the arrest followed the confessions of the former leader of the 1st Brigade, Sameer al-Shahroor, the head of National Reconciliation in Barzeh neighborhood, who was arrested in November 2018, and he confessed that he had been in contact with officers of the regime’s army during the presence of opposition factions in Barzeh area before the agreement that led to the control of the regime forces over the neighborhood, and the displacement of the factions to the Syrian north, and the stay of those who wanted to stay and carry out “reconciliation and settlements”.

Trusted sources reported to the Syrian Observatory that the Syrian regime’s authorities through tens of arrests they carried out in January 2018, against their officers and former fighters and commanders of factions who carried out “reconciliations and settlements;” the aim of which was to find out how the US TOW missiles have entered to Rahman Corps faction, before the presence of the faction in the Eastern Ghouta and south of Damascus, where these TOW missiles contributed significantly to repel the attempts of advancement of the regime forces in areas of Jobar and Ein Tarma specifically and left many of them dead, the sources added to the Syrian Observatory that Rahman Corps used a large part of these missiles and destroyed the other part, along with other weapons and ammunition in Zamalka town, just before exiting towards the Syrian north following after the “displacement agreement” back then.

The Syrian Observatory published on the 22nd of November 2018 that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned from reliable sources that the Air Force Intelligence branch of the regime forces issued circulars to arrest all people who carried out “settlement and reconciliation” operations with the regime forces in Barzeh area, which is located on the eastern outskirts of the capital Damascus, especially the leaders and members of the 1st Brigade, for what they called “fighting the corruption system”, where the Air Force intelligence carried out a campaign of raids and arrests this morning, targeted houses of people close to leaders of the 1st Brigade in the neighborhood of Barzeh, and houses of 2 former leaders of the 1st Brigade who are working for the Iranian Forces, where they fled, where members and leaders who carried out “settlement” and “reconciliation” are fleeing from Barzeh neighbourhood, under a continuous security campaign by the Air Force Intelligence branch in the neighborhood.
