Tension continues in the western sector of Al-Raqqah countryside along with the continuation of raids, searching operation and arrests in the wake of protests against the killing of a young man in Al-Mansurah

Al-Raqqah Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: tension is still prevailing the western countryside of Al-Raqqah, specifically in Al-Mansurah area, against the backdrop of the protests that took place in the recent days, by the residents of Al-Mansurah town, as a result of killing a young man of Al-Bo Khamis Clan in J’eidin village, by the Internal Security Forces present in the town, and intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that after a curfew was imposed, and after the protests that were accompanied by attacks on security detachments and burning them and burning vehicles as well as cutting off main roads pass through the town, the Asayish forces are still continuing a campaign of searching and raids, within Al-Mansurah town, where the raids were accompanied by arrests that targeted about 70 persons of the town’s residents, and intersected sources said that the raids and searching operations are still continuing, for persons who are accused of belonging to “cells affiliated to the organization and Turkey and factions loyal to it”, amid widespread popular resentment against these arrests, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published last night, that the area is witnesses the intervention of mediators and clans’ sheikhs in order to release all people who have been arrested, and the Syrian Observatory published yesterday, Thursday, that the tension continues in al-Mansoura area in the western countryside, after the recent events, amid curfew in the town by the forces controlling it, and in the details obtained by the Syrian Observatory: the tension continues to prevail in al-Mansoura town after a member of the Internal Security Forces “Asayish” killed a young man on a checkpoint at the entrance to al-Mansoura, which ignited anger among the people who expressed their dissatisfaction with the incident by protesting and setting fire to cars and a detachment belongs to the Internal Security Forces, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights received a copy of the statement issued by the Internal Security Forces “Asayish,” it says:

“al-Mansoura town of al-Tabaqa area witnessed this morning, Wednesday, the 23rd of January 2019, at 12 pm, and when members of the Internal Security Forces were performing their regular duties of checking and inspecting at the checkpoints and points; a person did not obey the instructions of members of the checkpoint, forcing a person to intervene, which injured the driver of the car with a gunshot that claimed his life, as a result, the town witnessed some unfortunate riots where some people attacked centers and checkpoints of the internal security forces which damaged property, destabilized the area, and terrified the people, and caused some cells in the area to move and ignite sedition, riots, and chaos, to weaken the people’s trust in the self-administration and the military and security forces, and as a result of these events and actions, and in order to preserve the security and stability of the area due to our duty to protect our people; the following is decided: our security and military forces will intervene directly against anyone who violates the laws and regulations and aims to destabilize the security of the area, imposing a 72-hour curfew starting from Thursday, 24/1/2019, all the people must abide by the issued instructions and cooperate with the security and military forces to impose security and stability in the area.”

The Syrian Observatory published on Wednesday, that it monitored tension in al-Mansoura area in the western sector of al-Raqqah countryside, against the backdrop of demonstrations and protests by residents in the town after killing a person at the entrance of the city, and in the details obtained by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: a person was killed in shooting at the entrance of Mansoura town, where residents of the town confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the Internal Security Forces “Asayish” shot a young man from J’eidin village while they were pursuing him, and they shot him directly which killed him and agreed residents of the town, where residents of the town and the family of the man, where the family of the young man and people of the town carried out civil disobedience, demonstration, and protest against the killing of the young man by Asayish, where the residents attacked one of the detachments of the forces controlling the town and set it on fire, they also closed Aleppo – Al-Raqqah roads, and gathered around one of the headquarters in the town, and set fire to a number of cars and vehicles in the town, in conjunction with bringing reinforcements by the Asayish forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces to the town, and hearing the sounds of intense gunfire, intersected sources confirmed that they were caused by gunfire of the reinforcements in the air, in an attempt to disperse the protesters, also reliable sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that movements are taking place in an attempt to contain the situation, at a time when the people demand the holding the killers accountable and bring them to the court to get their punishment, also the people demanded the Asayish Forces and the forces in control of the area to stop prosecution the people, which is often cause casualties if there are charges against a person, or if they pursue the people for the conscript, during the shootings of those fleeing the patrols in the city, and the Syrian Observatory monitored the notables of the area trying to calm the situation and get promises to hold accountable those who killed the young man, who is from al-Bo Khamis clan located in the area within the western sector of al-Raqqah countryside.
