ENKS Urges Turkey to Pressure Rebels in Afrin to End Violations

The Kurdistan National Council of Syria (ENKS) has called on Turkey to put pressure on Ankara-backed Syrian rebels in the Kurdish enclave of Afrin in northern Syria to stop violations against citizens.

According to a statement by the council, a copy of which was obtained by BasNews, “an armed group of the so-called military police and political security” of the armed militias in Afrin arrested the president of the Kurdish Council in Afrin and that his fate has so far remained unknown.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, meanwhile, said that the”Olive Branch” operation forces “arrested the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Afrin, Hussain Ibish, who is the president of the Kurdish National Council in Afrin,” adding that he was transferred to an unknown destination.

The Turkish army cooperatively with the Ankara-backed Syrian rebels took over Afrin last year after nearly two months of a military confrontation against Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).
