Syria: 20 civilians killed in north, sources

A reported 20 civilians, including women and children, were killed over the last 48 hours in central and north-western Syria by artillery fire between government forces and Qaedists, according to sources on the ground and the UK-based monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The sources said that government and Russian artillery fire has intensified since Saturday in the areas between Hama and Idlib controlled by anti-regime militants.

The sources added that anti-government armed groups, including militias affiliated to al Qaida, responded by shelling the area of Masyaf, near one of the most important Iranian military bases in the region.
