US plotting to expel Syrian Army, IRGC from key border town

The Arabic-language Al-Watan newspaper claimed on Monday that the U.S.-backed Jaysh Mughawar Al-Thura is forcing tens of youth from the al-Rukban Camp to join their ranks in the al-Tanf region near the Iraqi border.

Citing sources from the U.S.-backed group, Al-Watan said these new personnel are going through intensive military training for a major battle in the near future.

The newspaper said these forces will  attempt to expel the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from the key border town of Albukamal and large town of Al-Maydeen in rural Deir Ezzor.

Al-Watan newspaper also quoted informed sources as saying that the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have also been dispatched to these fronts to aid in the offensive.

The sources also pointed to efforts by the SDF to send more equipment to the region, adding that the main aim for this operation is cutting the international highway.

In a relevant development on Saturday, media reports revealed that Washington had dispatched new military aid to the Syrian Democratic Forces in Eastern Euphrates after declaring an end to the war on ISIL.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Saturday that the U.S.-led coalition has sent new military convoys, including tens of trucks carrying military aid and logistical equipment, from the Iraqi Kurdistan region to areas controlled by the SDF in Eastern Euphrates.

It added that over 810 trucks carrying military and logistic equipment for the U.S.-led coalition have arrived in Eastern Euphrates.
