Presidency of Idlib University of the Rescue Government threatens employees of the university to dismiss them if they send their children for exams in the Syrian regime’s areas

The Syrian Observatory learned that the presidency of Idlib University of the Rescue Government issued on Tuesday, the 11th of June 2019, a circular to all colleges and institutes of the university, which states that all workers who are found to have sent their children to have the exams of the middle and secondary schools in areas of the Syrian regime after issuing this circular will be dismissed; and accordingly, several members of the educational cadres and workers will be dismissed, knowing that there are still those who work at Idlib University but choose for their children the certificate of education issued by the Ministry of Education of the Syrian regime; and not to recognize the certificate issued by the Idlib University except within Idlib, with and with the increased shelling on the de-escalation area  and the displacement of more than 300000 civilians from the northern, northwestern, and the southern provinces of Hama, in addition to the flee of the remainder of the educational team and teaching staff to the north searching for safety; the schools have been closed and not to mention tens of schools that were bombed during this heaviest escalation, which in turn led to tens of thousands of students and pupils leaving their schools, in addition to regime’s advancement to Qal’aat al-Madiq, Jabal Shashabo villages, Sahl al-Ghab, Kafr Nabudah town, and the displacement of many villages and towns completely.

In March of 2019, tens of students from Aleppo Free University in Idlib city, Maarrat al-Nu’man, and Kafr Takharim, staged a protest against the decision of the Higher Education Council in Idlib of the Rescue Government to close the university’s branches in Idlib, including the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Kafr Takharim city, calling for the separation of political and factional differences from the education, and for the factions and governments to focus their efforts on securing the lives of civilians, rather than perpetuating differences and interests, and in February 2019, a protest took place in Idlib city by students of the “International University” demanding the overthrow of the Higher Education Council and opening the Universities that were closed by the Rescue Government, also Idlib Province witnessed in mid-January 2019 a massive protest by private university students in Maarrat al-Nu’man and Ariha, protesting the decisions of Higher Education Council of the Rescue Government towards the private universities in the liberated areas, which state to license the universities or they will be closed down.
