After popular protests in Azaz city .. “Ak Energy” electricity company retracts its decree concerning the rise of electricity bill

Azaz city witnessed popular protests against the backdrop of raising the price of a “kilowatt per hour” of electricity by the “Ak Energy” electricity company.

The Local Council in the city declared the cancellation of the decree and to work according the old price.

This will go under the sponsorship of the mediator in this project – the Turkish state of Kilis – and according to the laws and conditions, where the council takes over the resolve of any disagreement between the company and the citizens.

It is noteworthy that the citizens in the controlled areas of the pro-Turkey factions have been suffering from poor humanitarian conditions.

On the 2nd of November 2019, SOHR published that it monitored tens of the locals of the areas that under control of the pro-Turkey factions, protesting against the price of electricity in Azaz city, and sources informed the Syrian Observatory that tens of people gathered in front of the electricity company known as “ET Energy” or “AK Energy”, demanding the reducing of the price of kilowatt per hour after the company’s decision of raising it from 85 piasters to 105 piasters, and after these protests, the company issued a statement in which it said that the rise of price is temporary and will last only for 2 months due to the rising Diesel fuel price, it is noteworthy that the company is Turkish, and worked on providing electricity for the controlled areas of the pro-Turkey factions.

The city of Azaz in the north of Aleppo, signed a ten-year contract with the Turkish company of “ET Energy” in April 2018, for feeding the city with electricity, and the project of extending electricity to Azaz came according to a contract signed by the Local Council with the Turkish private company, where Kilis State mediated between the two sides, thus, the company vows to feed Azaz with 30 megawatt in return of securing the land and raw materials needed for executing the project, and the sources said that Kilis State will take over any disagreement between the Local Council and the company, while the council takes over the resolve of any disagreement between the company and the citizens, according to the agreement’s terms, and the Local Council is considered a administrative partner, while the Turkish company to undertake everything else, the Local Council provided a piece of land for building the power plant in addition to the available remains of the wireless network represented by wires and pylons worth between 400000 and 500000 USD.
