Russia And Turkey Work To De-Escalate Situation Near Ain Issa

Russia and Turkey have agreed to hand over the Sharakrak silos in northern Raqqa to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on November 28.

According to the UK-based monitoring group, Russian forces and Syrian military units advanced towards the Turkish-controlled silos in the morning. However, they are yet to enter them.

  • “The agreement with the Russian says that regime forces [the SAA] should advance towards the Sharakrak silos and impose control of them,” a source familiar with the agreement told the SOHR.

Militants of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) captured the silos in a rapid attack earlier this month. Back then, the SOHR reported that Russia is pressuring Turkey into withdrawing from the silos.

Recent aerial images released by the Russian RusVesna.SU outlet revealed that Turkish forces have turned the silos into a full-on military base.

The Sharakrak silos are located a few kilometers to the east of the Ain Issa, which make them critical for the security of the key town and the nearby M4 highway.
