The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights

(S.A.) and (H.A.) .. from ISIS members in Deir Ezzor to fighters in the ranks of “Ahrar al-Sharqiyyah” in Afrin

In the frame of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights’ efforts to document data and information about the former ISIS members who joined the ranks of the so-called “Syrian National Army” backed by Turkey, SOHR obtained new information about 2 former members -(S.A.) and (H.A.)- in the ranks of the “Islamic State” organization who are descended from Al-Mayadin city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

Sources informed the Syrian Observatory that both members were in Saddam Hussein Battalion affiliated to the Free Army in Al-Mayadin city, before they swore allegiance to the “Islamic State” organization with the beginning of its control over the area, in which their task was to escort the organization’s patrols and guide them to the houses of people wanted for the organization during the raids.

A year after their pledge of allegiance to ISIS, they were within those sorted to fight on the front of Deir Ezzor Military Airbase, they were also punished several times by the organization for abandoning the fight during the raging battles.

After that, both men tended to coordinate with “Ahrar al-Sharqiyyah” faction and fled in 2017 towards areas under control of the factions of operation “Euphrates Shield”, where they joined the ranks of Ahrar al-Sharqiyyah and participated in the operation “Olive Branch”. Today, they are present in Jendires area in the countryside of Afrin city north-west of Aleppo.
