With Coalition air support, SDF raid Al-Shuhayl town and arrest weapons dealers and others accused of helping ISIS members to escape

Syria Democratic Forces has been continuing their security campaigns, with support of the International Coalition, within areas under their control in Deir Ezzor province. These campaigns target smugglers and arms dealers with the purpose of control the growing lawlessness in the areas their held areas.

In this context, SOHR sources have reported that a large group of 30 military vehicles affiliated to SDF backed by Coalition helicopters, raided Al-Shuhayl town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor after midnight of Wednesday – Thursday.

They carried out a campaign of raids targeting houses of arms dealers and smugglers accused of being involved in helping ISIS members to escape, during the period of siege imposed over ISIS last enclave east of Deir Ezzor, near the Syrian – Iraqi border.

According SOHR sources; the campaign led to the arresting of at least eight wanted persons. Meanwhile, a displaced civilian from Al-Mayadin was injured, after being hit with indiscriminate gunshots.

One of those who have been arrested, claimed that the raiding forces stole gold and money from his house during the raid. Also relatives of the arrested people tended this morning to block the town’s main road and set tires on fire, demanding the release of their relatives.
