Instability in East Syria between Iranian – American tension and ISIS strong resurgence

Tension prevails in areas under control of the Iranian forces and loyal militias and regime forces in Deir Ezzor province in the light of ISIS mounting activity and growing alertness between  Iran and US.

SOHR sources have reported that the Iranians are still continuing to evacuate their headquarters in Al-Bokamal, its countryside and other positions in the area, for fear of possible U.S. strikes.

Yesterday, SOHR reported that members of the “Islamic State” organization carried out intensive shelling with mortars this evening, on positions of the regime forces and loyal militias in the area of Al-Badia that expands from Al-Dwayr village to Al-Jalaa town in Deir Ezzor countryside.

Meanwhile, the regime forces responded with targeting Al-Badia area with heavy artillery and fired flares over Al-Abbas village in Al-Bokamal countryside.

It is noteworthy that the area where today’s exchange of fire took place, is located near the site where a regime military bus was ambushed this morning.

According to SOHR sources; a bus carrying members of the regime’s 11th Division was ambushed on the International Highway near Subaykhan town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The attack left at least seven soldiers dead as well as the injury of 14 others.

SOHR sources confirmed that ISIS cells are active in this area.

SOHR also reported yesterday, that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) are continuing to seize houses of civilian expatriates in Al-Mayadin city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

Recently, the group seized three villas in the area between the water station and the Modern Medicine Hospital, which commanders of the Iranian militias have been housed in.

All farms bordering the Euphrates River were also seized in the area between al-Baloum and Nazlet Al Mashro’a, where military patrols were recently conducted, the seizure occurred during the period from 15 to 30 December last year for fear of repeated targeting of Iranians there, SOHR sources added.

The Syrian Observatory reported, on Sunday, that Iranian-backed militias had evacuated their headquarters in the city of Albu Kamal so as to avoid any potential shelling on Iranian-backed militia positions in Syria, Iranian-backed militias were deployed in orchards on the banks of Euphrates River while security guards maintained in their headquarters, according to SOHR sources.
