SDF carry out a new campaign on the river crossings in Deir Ezzor

Deir Ezzor Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the Syrian Observatory activists reported that Syria Democratic Forces carried out a new security campaign with air support by the International Coalition.

The campaign aimed to close the water crossings used for smuggling in Al-Hawaij village and Theban and Al-Tayyanah in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. SDF members opened fire on the ferries used for smuggling in order to sabotage them.

On January 2, SOHR sources reported that Syria Democratic Forces have closed the river crossings in Al-Shuhayl town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

These crossings are used for smuggling goods between SDF-held areas and areas controlled by the regime.

According to SOHR sources; the river crossings were closed after young men from Al-Shuhayl town fired RPG shells on Wednesday and Tuesday, on positions of the regime forces stationed in Baqrus town on the other bank of Euphrates River.

It is noteworthy that cement and fertilizers are being transported via the river crossings from the regime’s controlled areas to SDF controlled areas, while grains, crude oil, locally filtered gasoline, and food supplies are being transported from the controlled areas of SDF to areas under control of the regime. Hundreds of people work in these water crossings as guards and workers.
