Al-Suwaidaa: People protest against currency’s plunge and calls for improving living conditions

Al-Suwaidaa Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the Syrian Observatory activists monitored tens of people gathering for the second consecutive day, in front of the governorate building in Al-Suwaidaa city, calling for improving living conditions.

These protests are coincided with the astronomical prices of staples and essential products along with the currency’s plunge, in which the exchange rate of one USD reached 1150 SYL.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that tens of residents protested in front of the governorate building in Al-Suwaidaa city, against the deteriorating living conditions and high prices within areas under control of the regime.

This spike in goods and foodstuff prices is coincided with sharp fall in exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the U.S. dollar. In the past few days, the exchange rate of one USD exceeded 1,000 SYL.

In connection to this, tens of demonstrators blocked the road to the square of Shahbaa town in Al-Suwaidaa countryside for the same reasons.
