Opposition rebels and jihadis advance into north-east Maarrat Al-Nu’man countryside, while regime forces fail to progress in rural Aleppo

Syrian Observatory sources have reported that fierce clashes are underway between opposition factions and jihadi groups on one hand, and regime soldiers and loyalists on the other, on the frontlines of Khalseh and Al-Humayrah in the south of Aleppo.

The clashes followed a new attempt by the regime to advance into the area, amid Russian aerial bombardment on the contested areas and exchange of rocket fire between the regime and the factions.

The Syrian Observatory learned that the factions and jihadis achieved advancement in the areas of Mushaymis, Samaka and Al-Berseh, north-east of Maarrat Al-Nu’man.

The factions’ advancement came after their attack on regime oppositions in the north-eastern countryside of Maarrat Al-Nu’man with the purpose of reducing pressure by the regime on the eastern parts of Maarrat Al-Nu’man city.

The battles in the north-eastern countryside of Maarrat Al-Nu’man left fatalities in the ranks of both warring forces, in which SOHR activists documented the killing of four jihadis and eight regime soldiers.
