The Assyrian Church calls upon the State of Islamic Caliphate to release its congregation, and dissociates itself from all armed factions

SOHR had received a copy of a statement issued by the Assyrian Church of the East in the province of al- Hasakah that “Assyrians have lived peacefully in their areas for thousands of years within their diverse environment of religions and sects, and they do not suffer from anybody and nobody suffer from them. Assyrians shared joy and sorrow with their partners in land and life because we are part from this community regardless of our differences in belonging. We, as Assyrians in Syria, have adopted self- distancing policy in this conflict but that does not mean that we are no concern about the crisis but because we are very far from the culture of arms in our daily and future life. Today we live but  there are a lot of our sons have been detained with their families due to the clashes that have taken place in their villages in the town of Tal Tamer, and because there are some people who alleged to be guardians of those people through statements published on different mass media, so it is our duty to confirm to the State of Islamic Caliphate on the prophecy approach the following:

  • The Assyrian Church does not represent but itself and its congregation, including the detainees, and that it is independent in its decisions and has no power on the other churches exist in the region.
  • We and the armless innocent, including the detainees, have no representative armed group.
  • We confirm that the Assyrian Church and its congregation have not and will never hold any agreement or military alliance with PKK, any other Kurdish and Arab factions, any external or western agencies.
  • We declare that we dissociate ourselves from any alliance or armed party that claims that it represents us and contradicts our peaceful culture.

At the end and on the principle of “have mercy of those who are on the earth, in turn the one who is overhead (Allah) will have mercy you” we call upon you to release all Assyrian detainees hopping of your patience.”

It is noted that IS organization has still detained for 26 days about 200 Assyrians kidnapped from 11 villages in the countryside of Tal Tamer Town in al- Haskah Province.
