“Self-administration” raises prices of raw materials needed for bread baking amid bread crisis in Al-Qamishli, Derbasiya and Amuda

SOHR sources say that private bread bakeries owned by civilians stopped working three days ago in protest against the high production costs. All these bakeries are producing good quality bread called “tourist bread”, compared to similar public bakeries. These ovens are distributed in Al Qamishli, Darbasiya and Amuda.

Meanwhile, “self-administration” increased the price of raw materials needed for bread baking, including gasoline and flour.

On the other hand, cities and towns in the region are suffering from an acute shortage of bread for the above-mentioned reasons.

The owners of the bakeries went on strike last month, while “self-administration” forced them to break their strike by opening their ovens and agreeing to wholesale the pack of bread to vendors at 190 Lira, on condition that the vendor receives its approved quantity from the oven because the bakeries bear the costs of distributing bread.
