As cronavirus announced global pandemic, “Autonomous Administration of N and E Syria” plans to implement strict safety measures

“Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria” released a package of precautionary decrees after the World Health Organization had announced the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as a global pandemic. Syrian Observatory activists have obtained a copy of these decrees: they read “After announcing the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic, the following measures are planed to be implemented in order to ward off the virus and prevent the possible spread of the infection:

  • All meetings and public events to be prohibited in the controlled areas of “Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria”.
  • Study to be suspended in all schools, educational institutions and universities (for students and teachers only), from Saturday, March 14, until further notice.
  • Traveling via all crossings of the Autonomous Administration to be suspended. Border crossings will be allowed only on Tuesdays for the inhabitants of the north and east Syria
  • Crossings, schools, educational institutions and universities will be re-opened later, after releasing a decree only by the joint presidency of the Executive Council of North and East Syria.
  • Decree No.15, released on the 27th of February 2020 concerning the closure of Semalka border crossing, to be valid until further noice.
  • Relevant authorities to be informed of this decree.
