Idlib University remains open amid the spread of Coronavirus

The educational process continues at Idlib University of “Salvation Government”, despite the spread of an epidemic which is threatening the entire world. Idlib and connected areas are suffering from dire conditions where the situation is as serious as the spread of this epidemic. Poverty, displacement and lacking minimum living standards combine to make it even crueler.

Although northern and north-western regions of Syria are Coronavirus-free, however, the surrounding areas have taken preventive measures, including suspension of work in public institutions, universities and schools in regime-controlled areas.

In the areas held by Turkish-backed factions, crossings with surrounding areas has been closed and many universities such as “Free Aleppo”, “Al-Nahda” and “Sham”, supported by Turkish organizations, have been all suspended.

Strict measures have been taken in the “Self-Administration” areas, and a curfew has been introduced.

In Idlib, preventive measures are still not commensurate with the scale of the disaster if it occurs. Meanwhile, exams are still held at Idlib University without any concern for students’ safety and conditions, all for the sake of a profit return and receiving the remaining annual installment, in the largest human gathering of an entire generation.

Idlib University was established in early 2015 after the liberating Idlib city and countryside from regime forces, and it has thousands of students without recognition of its certificate and does not authorize its holder to work outside the borders of Idlib.
