NDF members open fire heavily up in the air celebrating the healing of their commander, triggering panic in Al-Mayadin city
Syrian Observatory activists have monitored widespread popular resentment in Al-Mayadin city, which is controlled by Iranian forces and regime-backed militiamen in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, due to heavy gunfire by members of the “National Defense Forces” (NDF).
NDF members opened fire heavily up in the air celebrating the healing of NDF commander in Al-Mayadin following a car accident. The commander is from Damascus and known by his initials as M.A.
The heavy gunfire triggered panic and widespread resentment among the area’s residents.
On March 10, SOHR sources reported that fierce clashes erupted in Al-Mayadin city in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor between members of the regime’s 4th Division and a recently-formed tribal militia which is affiliated to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
According to SOHR sources, a man from Al-Mayadin, known by his initials as (A.K.), has formed a new militia which includes hundreds of people of his tribe, pledging allegiance to IRGC; then, the man asked the 4th Division forces, stationed at a checkpoint in Al-Kournish street in Al-Mayadin city, to evacuate the checkpoint and told them that the recently-formed militia would be in charge of protecting the area.
Regime soldiers refused to pull out, triggering fierce clashes with Iranian-backed militia. The clashes resulted in the killing of a member of the civil defense, who was passing near the contested area, and left other civilians injured. The clashes led to the withdrawal of the “4th Division” as the militia took control of the checkpoint.
