HTS to open a crossing linking its areas with regime-controlled areas in rural Idlib

SOHR sources say that preparations are underway for the opening of a commercial crossing between HTS and regime forces near the city of Saraqeb on the M4 road, east of Idlib.

Areas controlled by Tahrir al-Sham and the “Salvation Government” are suffering from high vegetables and agricultural crops prices, while opening of the new crossing will drive up the prices due to increased demand, and provide the regime with consumer goods and foreign currencies.

In the meantime, the Syrian Observatory has monitored widespread discontent among the residents of Idlib and countryside over the opening of the crossing, which is an implicit recognition of the regime’s sovereignty over the area it captured during a year of fighting.

The opening of the crossing came in response to calls by citizens to close all crossings with regime-controlled areas after Coronavirus spread in their areas.
