Daraa in one week: ten attacks claim the lives of 15 regime soldiers, officers and “collaborators” with Hezbollah

The security situation is fast deteriorating in the province of Daraa which is under the control of regime forces and loyalists. Attacks and assassination attempts are executed almost daily, mostly targeting regime soldiers, regime-backed militiamen, and “collaborators” with regime authorities.

Meanwhile, the Syrian regime has not been able to put an end to this security vacuum in Daraa, which started to escalate in early June 2019.

In recent week, Syrian Observatory activists documented more than ten attacks in the eastern and western countryside of Daraa.

These attacks left 15 fatalities of regime forces and “collaborators” with Syrian regime and the Lebanese Hezbollah, including the 52nd Brigade’s chief of staff and a  regime colonel.

These assassinations took place through gunfire or attacks on checkpoints and military vehicles by unknown assailants.

Since the beginning of security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 409 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs . These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 250 persons, and they are as follows:

  • 50 civilians, including five women and four children

  • 133 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

  • 44 fighters of the faction who struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

  • 17 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces
