Idlib | Assassination attempt targets commander close to Turkish intelligence
Syrian Observatory sources have confirmed that clashes by machineguns erupted in the area of Al-Nayrab-Sarmin in rural Idlib following a failed assassination attempt. According to SOHR sources, unknown assailants opened fire on the commander of Al-Sham Corps, which is close to the Turkish intelligence, leaving him injured, while the attackers escaped via side streets in the area.
Meanwhile, SOHR activists have monitored a Turkish armored vehicle arriving in Idlib city this evening, escorted with members of Turkish-backed factions.
On April 29, SOHR sources said that a group of HTS security forces stormed Al-Sahrah village in west Aleppo countryside, attempting to kidnap the commander of an armed group of the independent battalions, in front of his house.
SOHR activists reported a day earlier that members of Hayaat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) prevented a Turkish military column from entering Darat Izza city, west of Aleppo province, as members of Al-Katoura checkpoint blocked the way of Turkish military vehicles.
This development comes amid growing tension between HTS on one hand, and Turkish forces and their proxies on the other, since HTS seeks to open a commercial crossing with regime-controlled areas.
SOHR sources also monitored earlier that day Turkish army and Al-Sham Corps on one hand, and Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham on the other on high alert, in areas in Aleppo and Idlib.
