Libya: NGO says 11,000 mercenaries enlisted by Turkey
A total of 11,000 “mercenaries” from Syria and other nations have been enlisted by Turkey to fight in Libya, said the NGO Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
It said that in recent months the government in Ankara has sent 7,850 Syrian and other unspecified-nationality militants to Libya, and has gathered an additional approximately 3,000 fighters in its training camps in Turkey.
SOHR said a total of 260 pro-Turkey Syrian “mercenaries” have died thus far fighting in Libya to support the front of the Tripoli government, which is recognised by the UN and the European Union and opposed to the forces of Libyan general Khalifa Haftar.
Haftar’s forces are backed by Egypt, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. (ANSAmed).
