Daraa | Public fear grows as regime forces bring in military reinforcement to rural areas of the province

The Syrian Observatory has monitored public concerns in rural Daraa for fear of military operation, following the arrival of regime’s military build-ups in several areas.

Regime forces have brought in 50 vehicles carrying soldiers and loaded with heavy machine guns, heading towards Sheikh Miskine, Tal al-Khidir and Sheikh Sa’ad.

Some 100 infantry soldiers have set off today from the town of Tseel to Sheikh Sa’ad.

Syrian Observatory activists reported this morning seeing regime forces and loyalists bringing in large military reinforcement to Al-Yadudah town and Tal Al-Khudor, adjacent to Daraa city from the west. Reports suggest that regime forces intend to storm Al-Muzayrib town, in order to arrest the former opposition commander, who killed nine regime affiliates on Monday.

The commander in question was supposed to be handed over by the area’s dignitaries, with Russian mediation. However, the commander has been still hiding to date.

On the other hand, regime forces have brought in other military reinforcement to the 52nd Brigade and the 38th Brigade, east of Daraa city, for the purpose of boosting their posts and positions in the wake of escalating assassinations there.

Yesterday, SOHR reported that regime security services threatened to invade the area militarily, if the commander in question would not be handed over before Wednesday. Meanwhile, Russian forces intervened to defuse the tension and get the commander handed over.

“A meeting was held between the area’s dignitaries and representatives of the Russian side, in which the dignitaries vowed to track the commander and hand him over as soon as they found him. Also tribal and local parties issued a statement condemning what the commander had done,” SOHR sources added.
