Afrin | Military reinforcement arrive and headquarters besieged, as clashes continue among Turkish-backed factions

SOHR sources say that military reinforcement of “Ahrar Al-Sham” arrived this evening at the city of Afrin from the area of Jandiras, amid ongoing violent clashes with military police and “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyah” in Al-Ashrafieh neighbourhood in the city of Afrin.

Medium weapons and 12.7 mm caliber artillery were used in the clashes. Meanwhile, Turkish-backed factions have cut off roads leading to the city of Afrin to prevent feuding factions’ reinforcement from entering.

On the other hand, “Ahrar al-Sham” has besieged several headquarters of military police and “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyah” in the city of Afrin and countryside.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has just monitored clashes with machine guns between “Ahrar al-Sham” members and others from “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyah”, in Al-Ashrafieh neighbourhood in Afrin city center. No casualties have been reported.

On May 5, SOHR activists reported that members of a joint security checkpoint in the city of Azaz opened fire on a military vehicle belonging to a Turkish-backed faction, today just before Iftar time, for trying to cross the checkpoint which belongs to military police and the “National Army”.

The violators were arrested and taken to the military police branch.
