Efforts to avert military operation | Representatives of central committee in Horan (Daraa) meet with commander of Russian forces in southern Syria

Daraa governorate – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

Reliable sources have informed the Syrian Observatory that a meeting was held three days ago by representatives of the central committee in Horan (Daraa), and the Russian side, headed by the commander of Russian forces in the south.

The two sides reviewed all the outstanding issues and problems since the settlements with regime came into effect in southern Syria. The meeting focused on the regime military build-up and sectarian militias in Daraa countryside.

Meanwhile, representatives of the central committees in Horan (Daraa) underlined the need for the Russian side to fulfil all its commitments and obligations as guarantor of the settlement agreement and to oblige the government side to apply all the terms of the settlement.

It was agreed that “Russian military police patrols would be conducted throughout Daraa province, especially the western region, to monitor and reduce the deployment of these forces and militias. We will also provide the Russian side with the names of the owners of the houses, farms and facilities where the military forces has been stationed in order to evacuate them.”

SOHR sources reported earlier that further military reinforcement have arrived in rural Daraa. Regime forces have brought in reinforcement from the 4th Division and their formations of “al-Ghaith” forces, 42nd Brigade and others, as well as Lebanese Hezbollah forces and Iranian-backed militias stationed in Daraa countryside. Forces are preparing to storm the area from several frontlines.

During the past days and hours, the Syrian Observatory monitored ongoing anti-regime demonstrations in towns and villages of Daraa province.
