SOHR | “Media reports of ISIS prisoners escaping from Al-Hawl prison untrue”

Reliable sources have informed SOHR that ex-ISIS members and their families continue their attempts to escape from “Al-Hawl mini-state camp” in the far south-eastern corner of Al-Hasakah province, which has been effectively turned into a large detention centre.

At least seven ISIS members managed to escape from “Al-Hawl camp” in the past few hours. According to SOHR sources, corrupt guards helped the escapees to get out of the camp in return for money. However, regime media outlets have reported that ex-ISIS members fled “Al-Hawl prison”, rather than “camp”, which is completely false.

On April 27, SOHR sources reported that an Iraqi refugee and his wife were stabbed with a sharp object by unknown individuals, in the first sector of Al-Hawl camp. The attack left the man’s right shoulder injured while his wife sustained injuries in her right forearm.

The man and his wife were taken to the Kurdish Red Crescent centre in the camp for receiving treatment, while the Internal Security Forces (Asayesh) arrested a number of suspects and questioned them.
