Rural Deir ez-Zor | SDF members kill child at river crossing used for smuggling, and residents SDF headquarters in retaliation

The town of Dhiban in Deir ez-Zor countryside is witnessing a security tension between SDF and the residents, following the killing of a child today by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as he was swimming in the Euphrates River, while SDF were chasing smugglers at the river crossing in the town of Dhiban.

The river crossing is used to smuggle materials into regime-controlled areas which is controlling the other side of the river.

Meanwhile, residents attacked the SDF headquarters in the town, amid growing tension in the town.

On May 23, Syrian Observatory sources reported that tension grew in the SDF-controlled village of Mashikh in the northern countryside of Deir Ezzor, following an armed fight between “Al-Bakeer” and “Al-Boferio” tribes.

According to SOHR sources, a person from Al-Bakeer tribe was shot dead by unknown gunmen, when he went out to put off the generator in front of his house. People of the victim’s tribe stormed Mashikh village, targeting Al-Boferio tribe as there is an old grudge between the two tribes.

Fierce clashes erupted between the two sides leaving eight persons of Al-Bakeer tribe dead before the attackers left the village.
